 Kathryn's Story

Grand Prix Dressage rider, trainer, competitor, Katherine Mashbir,
began her riding career at the age of 7. She begged her family for
riding lessons and took her first lessons at Pick Wick stables in Los
Angeles. After a family move to San Francisco, she continued to ride in
S F and Marin, competing in dressage in 74 with her quarter/TB mare
Country.  She also evented and received the highest dressage score at
the CMDTRA in Concord, CA the next summer. She continued to ride
and
began training with olympian Gwen Stockebrand, and her life time
coach
Melle Van Bruggen. It was Katherine's opportunity to ride many
different horses of all caliber and levels. With Gwen and Melle's help, she
trained her TB mare Winters Eye to Prix  Saint George. Her
next horse
Pic Nova became third place horse of the year in 1995, at

first level.
At the time she was being coached by international judge
Hubert Rohrer.
Unfortunely Nova retired early from her career leaving
Katherine without a
mount. Purchasing a retired jumper for a nominal
fee, Katherine began
training her new school horse Rockstar aka
"Rocky". Little did the two
of them know the bond and future they
would have together. In 5 short years
Katherine would take Rocky to
Grand Prix. "He is the most incredible horse
I've ever trained". His
willingness and work ethic are above and beyond all but
the elite few
that make Grand Prix. He is a truly happy athlete.

Katherine is currently training with Stefan Wolff.  She also gives much credit
to

Michelle Gibson for her coaching and friendship through the recent years.

Katherine is currently working as a trainer at the Los Angeles
Equestrian Center
and competing with Rockstar at Grand Prix. They
recently won high point TB
at the California Dressage Society annual
show. Katherine also competes
clients horses and took Monica  Stocks'
paint Harry Winston to 4th in the
USDF all breeds awards. Katherine is
available for clinics, lessons,
and training in Maryland on a part-time basis beginning in January and full-time
in May!
