Grand Prix Dressage rider, trainer, competitor, Katherine Mashbir, began her riding career at the age of 7. She begged her family for riding lessons and took her first lessons at Pick Wick stables in Los Angeles. After a family move to San Francisco, she continued to ridein S F and Marin, competing in dressage in 74 with her quarter/TB mare Country.She also evented and received the highest dressage score at the CMDTRA in Concord, CA the next summer. She continued to ride andbegan training with olympian Gwen Stockebrand, and her life time coachMelle Van Bruggen. It was Katherine's opportunity to ride many different horses of all caliber and levels. With Gwen and Melle'shelp, she trained her TB mare Winters Eye to PrixSaint George. Hernext horse Pic Nova became third place horse of the year in 1995, atfirst level. At the time she was being coached by international judge Hubert Rohrer. Unfortunely Nova retired early from her career leavingKatherine without a mount. Purchasing a retired jumper for a nominalfee, Katherine began training her new school horse Rockstar aka"Rocky". Little did the two of them know the bond and future theywould have together. In 5 short years Katherine would take Rocky toGrand Prix. "He is the most incredible horse I've ever trained". Hiswillingness and work ethic are above and beyond all but the elite fewthat make Grand Prix. He is a truly happy athlete.
Katherine is currently training with Stefan Wolff. She also gives much credit toMichelle Gibson for her coaching and friendship through the recentyears.
Katherine is currently working as a trainer at the Los AngelesEquestrian Center and competing with Rockstar at Grand Prix. Theyrecently won high point TB at the California Dressage Society annualshow. Katherine also competes clients horses and took MonicaStocks'paint Harry Winston to 4th in the USDF all breeds awards. Katherine isavailable for clinics, lessons, and training in Maryland on a part-time basis beginning in January and full-time in May!
